This course will assist the plan reviewer, fire marshal and field inspector in performing the plan review and inspections to ensure compliance with building construction types, occupancy classifications, separated and unseparated occupancies, high challenge fire walls, rated assemblies, etc. The class will explore the difference between the building construction type requirements in the building code vs the fire code.

The history of how the building construction types were changed throughout code history will be explained as well as some historical fires in different building construction type.

We will explore the upcoming codes on mid-and-highrise wood buildings and also discuss what “protected” building construction entails.
